Cornish Lure Festival 2015

The Cornwall Lure festival was something I was really looking forward to this year. I was a bit slow to buying the tickets due to money constraints but finally got it done and it was game on. This year I did go a little mental and me and Tim decided to head down to Cornwall a couple days before to give us some time to try and find some fish before the comp started. Continue reading

It’s coming together nicely!

Turns out I reckon I’ve done more fishing from my SIB than I have from the shore this month! That’s crazy! and I guess lucky to get some good weather to be able to as well! I’m really enjoying some thing new at the moment and fishing from the boat is yet another learning curve for me.

Shore Sessions

Apologies to any readers for the lack of updates recently, I have been really busy and any free time I have had, you guessed it… I’ve been fishing. With not a lot to shout about. I have had my fair share of blanks though they have mainly come from the daylight hours where I have been trying to get back into my surface fishing.

More fun in the SIB, new experiences and learning curves!

Last weekend saw some slight offshore winds and things looked feasible to get out on the SIB. We certainly haven’t seen many days recently where this would be possible but along our part of the coast there is nearly always somewhere you can find the wind off your back and this can certainly give an opportunity to get slightly offshore. The main reason behind getting the SIB was to improve our chances of fishing during the daytime or when the conditions didn’t really take our fancy from the shore and it’s also a huge new learning curve for me and getting any sort of result from these sessions is always pleasing.

What happened to spring?

Two or three weeks ago the cold of winter seemed like a distant haunt. The sun was beaming down and we hit 24 degrees at the peak of the day! It felt good real good! After spending the winter working outside it gave me a new lease of life. Soon after a my first session on the rocks was due. It was mid April and I often get my first fish of the season around this time. Conditions weren’t ideal but we still managed 5 fish between us and things looked good.

Easter weekend in the SIB

I recently brought a new engine for the SIB and easter weekend was going to be it’s trial run. Saturday we headed out and launched in a local estuary just to try out the engine and make sure we had no funny buisness and if everything ran smoothly then on the Monday we could hit the coast with some lovely conditions…

The Light sessions

I seem to have done more fishing with the LRF and light gear through these winter months than usual and it has been thoroughly enjoyable. Playing with different rigs/techniques and it’s all food for thought when It does come to the Bass season and whether these will be worthwhile using in different situations to improve catch rates only time will tell but it’s good to be able to enjoy sport on the lures all year round.

Winter Wrasse Sessions

December, January and February are the times I find myself fishing for Wrasse the most in a season. The Bass thin out, the big Wrasse can come out to play and you can normally target them both on the same sort of ground. But they certainly seem to bite harder and with more confidence in the summer when the water is warmer and so far I have failed to find any fish of any size but that was also true when I did have a go in the warmer months anyway.

Pike with Neil

A very delayed report of a great days Piking with Neil on a local water. It was January and it had really started to get cold. On this day we where really feeling it. It was overcast and not a tiny bit of sunshine was shining through to warm us up. Neil mentioned he preferred the overcast days for for Pike just as we would for Bass. To be honest on these waters I haven’t noticed a difference and we normally only ever see a couple fish whether its sunny or cloudy, high or low pressure but it raised our enthusiasm and we felt confident.
