It’s been a slow start to the year, normally the early season is my favourite time and normally most productive… Sea temps where good early on but took a while to get upto 12 which can happen in a couple weeks with a heatwave. Instead the temps stayed down and it took a month to reach this.
Two or three weeks ago the cold of winter seemed like a distant haunt. The sun was beaming down and we hit 24 degrees at the peak of the day! It felt good real good! After spending the winter working outside it gave me a new lease of life. Soon after a my first session on the rocks was due. It was mid April and I often get my first fish of the season around this time. Conditions weren’t ideal but we still managed 5 fish between us and things looked good.
No wind and crystal clear water it was screaming for us to get a cheeky evening session on the boat but instead we chose to hit the darkness over a low water mark. We arrived just as the sun was going down and met Blair on the rocks. He’d already been there for a while and nailed some Wrasse to around 3lb.
Last year I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to fish as Pro staff for Seaspin. I jumped at the idea and looked at it as something new, a challenge and there products really interested me. After a season testing there lures and other accessories I can now shed some light on some of there products but unfortunately not all where used in vengeance and there’s plenty more testing to do next year…
So the weekend before last me and Neil headed out on Saturday evening. We would have normally preferred different tide times but we where keen to get out anyway and being a Saturday there was plenty of time for sleeping the next day.
On arrival we where completely blown out by the lettuce weed, this stuff is everywhere ATM and it pays to have a back up plan…
