Despite having the worst year of my life, on the fishing side it was by far my best! Amongst the winter storms we managed to find some clear water and the target was to hopefully nail a few Wrasse. There certainly wasn’t a lot of fish but I did manage my PB Wrasse at 50cm, I took the fish on a sunny day in the middle of January on an AYU 4inch Xlayer mounted on 10gm Weedless jighead.
More often than not I like to have a back up plan when I go fishing. I’ll rephrase that more of another option if things don’t pan out… Sometimes I just get that feeling that this isn’t going to happen or you take a gamble on the conditions and are met with dirty water and floating weed. I like to have another chance at saving the session and possibly getting into a fish or two. Sometimes the back up plans are better than the first idea… But you have to gamble and try these new ideas in order to learn…
It’s a funny thing, almost like being drunk but your clearly not just get that funny sort of lets be stupid kind of feel. I quite enjoy it actually but it’s clearly not a good thing. Only so long can I then last before the eye lids start to drop.
So the last set of neap tides proved difficult. I had a few small fish on occasion but the wind made the areas I wanted to target difficult. Then the may bloom appeared and that really didn’t give me any confidence. The good news was that it cleared and in time fro the next set of spring tides!
Me and the misses watched the John butler trio on Saturday night and there was no way I was going to be in a fit state for an early morning session but I was so keen to get out.
I came up with a rough idea on Saturday for Sunday afternoon/evening instead. The plan was to hit a mark over low maybe hit a couple Wrasse if the Bass where slow or hopefully save a blank early on with the good chance of a schoolie or two then move to a mark that I dragged Tim to a couple of years ago. Fish in the light for an hour and then over the high in the dark to see if there was anything lurking about and hopefully give us a chance of finding some better size fish…
The other evening I just needed to ESCAPE… from the world, from crap, you know how it is…
I went to a favourite mark of mine I haven’t fished this year but knew I could get into my own little world without all the crap and any disturbances.
So me and Dean hit the rocks Friday afternoon. It was a little overcast and a light southerly wind which created some perfect conditions for us.
Easter weekend… for someone self employed like me it was actually a pain to have a 4 day weekend but I certainly made the most of it. Friday was spent enjoying the sun on the beach with friends and Monday was fishing day!
Unfortunately best unlaid plans and all I woke on Sunday morning with a hangover. Not what I had hoped for and I certainly didn’t plan it. The phone was ringing and after a dog walk with Nicola I sneaked out for a few hours fishing with Tim and Dean. The plan was just to see what the coast was looking like and possibly see if we could tempt a cheeky Wrasse or too.
Most spring cleaning is a bore but this just helps with the excitement of the forth coming season ahead! Every year over the winter period of gloom and doom I always give the lures a clean and a change of hooks ready for the forthcoming season.
