Bye bye blues

Washing away the winter blues… Since the storms hit us hard in December I haven’t been inspired to get out and instead opting to get some jobs done and hopefully maximise my time when the conditions suit. Whether it’s getting out on the boat or hitting some tasty conditions on the coast….

Jersey Bass Festival 2015

43 miles of coast line, 8 metres of tide, an angle from any wind, headlands and surf beaches and lots of reefs. Jersey has it all and we couldn’t wait to explore and see what it had to offer. After the Cornish lure festival this year me and Tim where keen to see if we could do another. As we approached the channel islands via the ferry from Poole we couldn’t help but get excited.

Fun in the sun!

The last of the sun for 2015??? We are mid October now but I hope there are more days like this to come as I enjoy every day I get to go out on the boat. The SIB has been a tremedously fun bit of kit this year and has given me a new angle on my fishing. Me and Kory jumped at the opportunity to get out  when I saw a break in the weather… Continue reading

Something always has to go wrong…

A little catch up… September sucked and I was hoping it would be a good time for some serious fishing. It started brightly and over my birthday at the end of August I had a few days off. I managed to get out on the boat 3 times over 5 days. One day was perfect with plenty of fish smashing the topwaters. Me and Kory managed quite a few and mostly around the 3-4lb bracket. I hooked into a better fish only for the new singles that I had put on the patchinko to let me down. Gutted!

The baitfish are here!

August has been my worse month on record ever since I started lure fishing for bass except for my first season when it was potentially my best. Tactics and marks have changed since then and possibly for the worst when It comes to the dreaded month of August. Admittedly last year I barely fished it for other reasons but the other years it clearly stands out as being tricky. This month has seen the baitfish move in…

How important is distance?

I’ve just realised it’s been a while since I did my last blog post! Maybe I just needed to recover after the last… So how important is distance? It’s never really been a question for me. Nearly all the fish I ever caught where close in. Don’t get me wrong the fish may have followed from deep etc.. but I rarely hooked a fish at full casting range. I did try a 9’6 rod once to experiment but I really didn’t get on with it. Now I’m starting to re-think.

Cornish Lure Festival 2015

The Cornwall Lure festival was something I was really looking forward to this year. I was a bit slow to buying the tickets due to money constraints but finally got it done and it was game on. This year I did go a little mental and me and Tim decided to head down to Cornwall a couple days before to give us some time to try and find some fish before the comp started. Continue reading

Shore Sessions

Apologies to any readers for the lack of updates recently, I have been really busy and any free time I have had, you guessed it… I’ve been fishing. With not a lot to shout about. I have had my fair share of blanks though they have mainly come from the daylight hours where I have been trying to get back into my surface fishing.
